The Car Residence Belp, Switzerland

Solar Energy Meets Design and Functionality
Solar facade

The Car Residence in Belp, near Bern. In collaboration with our specialist partner Baur AG, we installed a state-of-the-art solar facade that generates approximately 64,000 kWh of eco-friendly electricity annually, with a total capacity of 90.63 kWp.

A facade with added value

The innovative solar facade spans 524 m² and consists of 477 facade modules from 3S. It generates energy and gives the building a striking, futuristic look. The seamless integration of the photovoltaic modules into the building envelope demonstrates that sustainability and architecture can harmonize perfectly.

A sustainable energy hub for modern mobility

The Car Residence, which opened in 2020, is Switzerland’s largest car hotel. Located in the immediate vicinity of Bern-Belp Airport, it offers space for up to 300 vehicles across several floors. The concept combines luxury, security, and digital services: Vehicles are automatically stored, protected from the elements and unauthorized access. The car hotel caters to both private customers with exclusive vehicles and companies in need of secure, high-quality vehicle storage. The entire building embodies a new generation of mobility architecture—energy-efficient, automated, and connected.

The solar energy generated is used on-site—including to power a high-capacity electric vehicle charging station available to visitors and guests of the Autohotel. This actively contributes to the promotion of electric mobility while also supporting the vision of an energy-self-sufficient mobility infrastructure.

The 3S solar facade offers numerous advantages

  • Power generation even under diffuse insolation, such as in the morning or evening light

  • Year-round energy generation thanks to vertical module installation

  • Effective building and weather protection

  • Durability and minimal maintenance

  • Enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the building's architecture
