Hotel Hornberg Saanenmöser, Switzerland

Integrating Solar Energy into the Hotel Industry
Solar roof

Together with the renowned Maison Hornberg in Saanenmöser-Gstaad and our specialist partner solarUp energie, which installed the system, we have successfully completed the region’s largest solar power plant. This project impressively demonstrates how aesthetic and functional solar solutions can contribute to energy self-sufficiency and promote environmental awareness.

Maison Hornberg, now in its third generation of family ownership under the Höfliger family, decided to invest in an in-roof solar power plant for environmental, aesthetic, and economic reasons. Our high-quality 3S MegaSlate solar modules were installed across an impressive area of 1,100 square meters. These modules blend harmoniously with the hotel’s typical chalet style and meet the highest aesthetic standards.

Key Facts

  • 1,100 m² of floor space
    190 kWp maximum output
    190,000 kWh annual output

Performance and Efficiency

With its installed capacity, the solar power plant generates at least 30 percent of the hotel’s annual power requirement. The annual energy output is approximately 190,000 kWh. This project demonstrates that sustainable energy generation is not only environmentally sound but also offers long-term economic benefits.

The project at Maison Hornberg demonstrates the successful integration of solar energy into the hotel industry. 3S is proud to be working with Maison Hornberg to help reduce its carbon footprint and set an example for future solar energy projects in the region. Hotel owner Christian Höfliger highlights the positive impact on guests and staff: “Awareness of the importance of using electricity responsibly has grown, and guests are very interested in the solar energy system. This project underscores the importance of renewable energy for sustainability.” For the implementation, we worked closely with the local company solarUp energie and the architectural team at FSW Kreatektur. Thanks to careful planning and the support of experienced local experts, the installation of the solar roof was completed within five weeks.
