Solar solutions for : Architects & Planners

The architecture of the future is active.

With building-integrated photovoltaic systems (BIPV) from 3S, you can transform roofs, facades and balcony railings into efficient power plants without restricting design freedom. We support you in uncompromisingly combining architecture, aesthetics, and sustainability. Our Swiss-made solar systems are far more than just technical components - they are high-quality building materials that fit seamlessly into any vision, from protected historic buildings to avant-garde new builds.

In-roof vs on-roof: Why integration is the better choice

Away from additive construction, towards integral design: while conventional rooftop systems often disrupt the architectural line, our in-roof systems redefine the building envelope as an aesthetic unit. The solar module is not placed on top as a foreign body, but acts as the primary, protective skin of the building. This seamless fusion of energy generation and materiality enables an uncompromising design language that takes the architectural design to its logical conclusion.

The advantages: Why BIPV solar systems from 3S make the difference

Aesthetics, efficiency and Swiss precision. The integration of our solar solutions into architecture offers much more than just power generation. Benefit from the technological and design advantages of our systems:

Design freedom for the highest design demands

Thanks to different standard sizes and the option of customized special modules, photovoltaics can be integrated precisely and seamlessly into any building grid. Different colors and low-glare surfaces guarantee a homogeneous aesthetic in which the technology recedes into the background in favor of an elegant building envelope.

System robustness and certified safety

The 3S solar systems are designed as a fully-fledged, protective building envelope and can withstand even the most extreme environmental influences and weather conditions. With hail protection class HW5 and exceptional resistance to wind, suction and pressure loads, our solar energy systems can also be installed in exposed, high Alpine locations. The highest fire protection standards, a 40-year weather resistance guarantee and a 25-year output guarantee (80%) offer lasting performance and safety for people and the building fabric.

Monument protection and preservation of the townscape

Thanks to specialized solutions, e.g. in a historic tile or slate look, as well as the option of staggered installation, our modules integrate seamlessly into protected sites. 3S regularly proves that state-of-the-art energy generation and the preservation of traditional architectural values can form an aesthetic unit.

Sustainability and long-term value enhancement

Forward-looking construction is based on transparency and quality, which is why our modules have comprehensive EPD certification. Consistent optimization for longevity, combined with the multi-year availability of replacement components, ensures the profitability and value of the property. Short transport routes and a minimized carbon footprint underline the ecological projection of our holistic system solutions.

Swiss Made

For us, quality is a question of origin: development and production take place directly in Switzerland. For architects and planners, this means maximum flexibility in project implementation, maximum precision in production and the security of a local contact partner. Our short distances guarantee efficient logistics, clear delivery times and project security based on Swiss engineering and reliable partnerships.

Customized Solutions : Custom work for complex geometries

Standard solutions often reach their limits with unusual designs. We start where others stop. If your project has special requirements for the geometry, size, shape or color of the solar modules, we are your partner.

Whether complex roof landscapes or specific grid dimensions for the facade: our experts develop and produce customized BIPV modules that adapt precisely to the structural conditions. We see ourselves as a manufactory for your ideas - so that the technology follows the form, not the other way around.

What we are proud of : Award-winning solar design

Church in Trin (GR), winner of the Norman Foster Solar Award
Farmhouse Münsingen (BE), winner of the Swiss Solar Prize

For us, quality is not a promise, it is measurable. Our solar systems have already won several awards for their outstanding combination of design and technology. We are particularly proud of the prestigious Norman Foster Solar Award and the Swiss Solar Prizes, which underline our claim to integrate solar energy aesthetically into architecture. These awards confirm our role as market leader for architecturally sophisticated photovoltaics solutions.

Frequently asked questions

  • What advantages does BIPV offer compared to conventional PV systems?

    BIPV offers several advantages:

    • Aesthetics: By integrating BIPV into the building envelope, it blends harmoniously into the architectural design.

    • Space saving: As BIPV modules replace conventional building materials, additional space is saved on the roof or facade.

    • Double function: BIPV modules provide both protection from the weather effects and energy generation.

    • Sustainability: BIPV helps to reduce the ecological footprint of a building by using renewable energy.

  • What needs to be considered when planning a BIPV project?

The following points should be taken into account when planning a BIPV project:

    • Architectural integration: The modules must aesthetically match the design of the building.

    • Technical specifications: Selection of the right modules based on efficiency, performance and local climatic conditions.

    • Regulatory requirements: Compliance with local building regulations and standards.

    • Economic efficiency: Cost-benefit analysis and consideration of funding opportunities.

    • Cooperation: Close cooperation between architects, civil engineers and PV specialists to ensure optimum integration.

  • How does the installation of BIPV modules differ from conventional PV systems?

The installation of BIPV modules requires careful planning and collaboration between architects, civil engineers and PV specialists. As BIPV modules are an integral part of the building envelope, they must meet both the aesthetic and functional requirements of the building. This includes consideration of tightness, thermal insulation and structural integrity.
