Voices from the market : What our customers say

There are now over 25,000 3S solar installations in operation, reliably supplying sustainable energy.

The installation of a building-integrated solar system on this traditional Engadine house shows that the age of the building is no obstacle to a solar roof. That's a good feeling.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is BIPV?

Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) refers to the integration of solar modules into the building envelope, such as roofs, facades or railings. In contrast to conventional PV systems, BIPV modules replace building materials and perform a dual function: power generation and structural protection. In addition to energy efficiency, BIPV also improves the aesthetics and sustainability of buildings.

  • How does the orientation and pitch of BIPV modules affect their performance?

The orientation and pitch of BIPV modules have a significant influence on their energy production. Modules that are oriented to the south and have an optimal pitch (around 30-35 degrees in Central Europe) achieve the highest energy yield. Facade modules, on the other hand, usually have a lower pitch, but can also be efficient through vertical integration in buildings with high insolation.

  • How high is the energy efficiency of BIPV modules?

The energy efficiency of BIPV modules depends on various factors, including the type of PV material used (e.g. monocrystalline, polycrystalline, thin-film), the orientation and pitch of the modules and the local climatic conditions. Modern BIPV modules offer comparable efficiency values to conventional PV modules. For example, the modules from 3S Swiss Solar Solutions AG offer high efficiency and are designed to meet the specific requirements of BIPV projects.

  • What does the maintenance of BIPV modules look like?

The maintenance of BIPV modules is relatively low. However, it is important to carry out regular inspections to ensure that the modules are clean and free from damage. Cleaning can usually be done by rain, but in areas with low rainfall or high levels of soiling, manual cleaning may be required. Maintenance contracts with specialized companies can help ensure optimal module performance.
