Solar balcony railingsAlpine

Set against the stunning mountain backdrop of Villars-sur-Ollons (VD), the 810-meter-long solar balcony railings stretch across the entire facade of the Hotel Victoria. For the Hotel Victoria, this marks the fulfillment of a long-held wish: to integrate a solar solution into the existing architecture.

The idea to install solar balcony railings throughout the hotel came about when all the balustrades needed to be replaced. The hotel seized this ideal opportunity to set an example for sustainability in the tourism industry by harnessing this inexhaustible energy source. The installation of the solar balcony railings is the first step in its ambitious development strategy in the field of renewable energy. The other two hotels, the Villars Palace and the Villa Lodge, will follow suit.

The decision to choose the 3S product was based on its positive features and the goal of generating renewable energy. This charming hotel combines the unique mountain landscape with 3S’s innovative and aesthetically pleasing Swiss product by committing to the active use of solar energy.

Key Facts

  • 810 linear metres
    70 kWp maximum output
    480 bifacial modules

Maximum power output

Solar solutions installed on balustrades are particularly profitable during the winter months. While the modules on the surrounding roofs are covered in snow, the 480 bifacial modules generate a total output of 70 kWp. This cutting-edge technology is expected to generate 15–20% of its energy. Combined with the solar array on the hotel’s roof, a significant amount of renewable energy is produced.

Play

Guests have responded very positively to the solar balcony railings, as they appreciate the hotel’s commitment to renewable energy and admire the hotel’s aesthetically pleasing balcony railings.

Solar energy system used

3S solar balcony railings

The 3S solar balcony railings are a certified BIPV solution. They replace conventional railings, generate electricity on both sides, and meet the requirements for barrier glazing. The glass module with embedded solar cells provides sufficient privacy while remaining pleasantly translucent. The modules are also available in various colors as well as in a low-glare version. Additional design elements and flexible mounting options facilitate easy integration into a variety of architectural concepts.
