Bringing a building with nearly a century of history up to the latest energy standards without losing its character presents a unique challenge. In Oberrieden, right in the heart of the historic village center and not far from Lake Zurich, Luzian Dörfler, owner and managing director of Dörfler AG, has achieved exactly that. His 1930s home was not replaced by a new building, but was specifically modernized to meet today’s energy standards.

The integration of a 3S solar facade and a 3S solar roof makes it possible to generate a large portion of the required energy on-site. Thanks to careful planning and the high quality of the modules, the solar energy system is virtually indistinguishable from a conventional building envelope. The implementation had to meet the highest technical standards and also comply with municipal regulations to preserve the character of the townscape.

This construction project also marked the beginning of the collaboration between Dörfler AG and 3S. To ensure a smooth installation, an outdoor training session was held for the 3S Academy took place directly on-site. It provided the Dörfler AG team with the necessary expertise to implement future projects independently and efficiently. In doing so, 3S underscores its commitment to not only providing high-quality solar systems but also sharing knowledge across the entire value chain.

Key Facts

  • 16 thermal modules
    119 solar modules
    35 kWp maximum output

3S solar roof – Maximizing Roof Area Utilization

The roof was fully covered with solar modules and optimized for high energy production. A total of 101 modules with a combined rated output of 31.58 kWp were installed. Of these, 91 are L modules and 10 are M modules. The system is supplemented by 16 thermal modules that provide additional thermal energy. In addition to power generation, the roof design ensures optimal use of daylight. Four skylights were integrated into the system to create bright and welcoming interior spaces. The robust construction and precise installation ensure that the solar energy system will reliably deliver sustainable energy for decades to come.

3S solar facade – Energy and Functionality

The building's facade was designed to be an active component of energy generation. The 18 installed solar modules, with a total output of 3.6 kWp, integrate seamlessly into the building and generate electricity from solar energy. With their glass surface in Satinato Flair Grey featuring subtle beige tones, they blend harmoniously into the building’s architecture.

An innovative project for a successful partnership

With this house, Luzian Dörfler has completed a construction project that preserves the existing structure while achieving the energy efficiency of a new build. “It’s great to know that we can produce and use a large portion of our own energy,” he says, describing the added value of the 3S solar solution for his home. This first joint project marks the beginning of a promising collaboration between Dörfler AG and 3S. We look forward to further joint projects and a long-term partnership.

Solar energy system used

3S solar roof

The 3S solar roof replaces conventional roofing materials with durable, building-integrated photovoltaic systems. They transform the roof into an aesthetically pleasing source of sustainable energy while protecting both the building and its occupants. High quality. Architecturally seamless. Swiss Made.

3S solar facade

The 3S solar facade is a frameless, aesthetically pleasing solar energy system that meets the highest standards for design, weather protection, and power generation. Seamlessly integrated, it actively contributes to the energy transition without compromising architectural integrity.
